About me

Kyra Correa is an illustrator and digital fabricator based in Kansas City. In 2024 she earned a BFA in Illustration at the Kansas City Art Institute. While a student there, she worked as a lead student technician at David T. Beals III Studios, the campus fabrication lab. She earned several awards and grants as a student, including the Beals Studios Award of Excellence and Innovation for her work utilizing the fabrication lab, the Beals Studios Special Projects Grant for her magnet triptych Psyche's Souvenirs, and the Illustration Grant for her Native Plant Triptych, which was also selected as a winner in the 2024 Society of Illustrators Student Competition. During the 2023-2024 school year she was also one of 16 artists from across the country who were selected to participate in the Psyche Inspired program, an internship with NASA's Psyche Mission.

Kyra boasts an eclectic list of inspirations, ranging from the bugs she sees on her walks to the music she listens to while drawing to the video games she played as a child. She is especially drawn to the natural world and all its intricate workings, including humanity's place in its greater whole. She often uses a mixture of traditional and digital processes to reflect this human-nature relationship. Through her work, Kyra seeks to evoke the same sense of joy, curiosity, and awe in her viewers that she feels towards her subjects.
